Kidepo is located in northeastern Uganda near the borders of South Sudan and Kenya — about 700 km from Kampala by road (approximately 8–10 hours). This remoteness is precisely what makes it so extraordinary: it's one of Africa's least-visited national parks, offering an uncrowded wilderness experience that larger, more accessible parks simply can't match. The drive north through Gulu and Kitgum is scenic and rewarding in itself.

Kidepo supports 76 mammal species including lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, oribis, elands, and cheetahs — species not found in Uganda's other parks. Birdwatchers will be thrilled: over 470 bird species have been recorded here, including 60 found nowhere else in Uganda. With virtually no other tourist vehicles in the park, wildlife sightings feel genuinely private and wild.

The Sipi Falls hike is moderate in difficulty and suitable for most fitness levels with proper footwear. The trail visits all three waterfalls, covering approximately 6–8 km with some gentle ascents and descents. Local guides are available throughout the hike and will pace the walk to suit your group. If preferred, shorter routes to the lower falls can be arranged.

Kidepo can be visited year-round. The dry season (June–September) is generally considered optimal for game viewing as wildlife congregates around permanent water sources, making sightings more predictable. The wet season (October–May) brings lush green scenery and excellent birdwatching, though some tracks may become challenging after heavy rain. The park is never crowded regardless of season.
